This month we chatted with Victoria of THORN Floral on Annette St. This local lady is truly a force to be reckoned with. Not only are her stunning floral creations some of the most incredible works of art I have ever seen but she is committed to running her business in a sustainable way. This is something we should all be doing. Victoria is a trailblazer in her industry and I’m sure that after reading about her you will be more than happy to support this local wonder woman!

Why did you decide to start your own business?

I’d worked within the industry for over a decade, and I’d always dreamed of owning a floral business of my own. I was born with a sense of independence and an entrepreneurial spirit. So naturally, I was longing for creative control, new responsibilities and hard work, fuelled by passion.

What is the philosophy at THORN Floral?

Support Sustainability! To reduce the environmental impact of the floral industry.  Utilizing local floral suppliers and greenhouses. And to limit the use of cellophane, non-recyclable materials and minimize waste.

What type of services do you offer?

THORN floral main service is weddings. Which includes all aspects of wedding floral planning, as well as on-site execution of ceremony and reception set up. Even tear down, when required.
Are there additional services offered by THORN Floral?
We also offer floral styling for corporate events, workshops, sympathy arrangements as well as daily deliveries. In the studio, THORN floral carries a selection of locally sourced blooms, plants and giftware.

What is the most rewarding part of owning your own company?

To share life moments with clients such as; weddings, milestones, celebrations, anniversaries, birthdays and gestures of gratitude. No person, couple or family are the same – I love being a small part of their diverse story.
What advice would you give to other women who are considering opening their own businesses?
Experience within the industry can be your greatest asset! Write a business plan and do your research. Think big, but start small!
